HEY-O-HANSEN ABRAXAS

HEY REC

12"

€7.90

"completing the hey-o-hansen six pack, this last installment sees múm's eiríkur orri pitching in on space trumpet and dirk von lowtzow (tocotronic) with vocals - creating something that sounds not unlike dubstep as viewed through a fairground hall of mirrors... apparently crafted as an answer to kode 9's '9 samurai', 'abraxas' is a cerebral chunk of wonky-step that features lyrics from carl gustav jungs' 1916 work 'septem sermones ad mortuos' atop rumbling subs and bad-boy beats of the clinical kind. amongst all this bwopping beats is the same attention to detail and emotional warmth that has made their name. busy enough to warrant full resolution, the composition never seems cluttered - as the horns weave their magic around lowtzow's intoned vocals. joined on the back by 'abraxas version', this is a fitting end to a much lauded series." (boomkat) "a 12inch single with a vocal track and version by hey ø hansen." (label info)

HEY-O-HANSEN BABYLON SYSTEM

HEY REC

12"

€7.90

"the fifth part in hey-o-hansen's '2006 singles collection', 'babylon system' continues to carve the berlin signature across the peppered alpine variations that so characterise hey rec's sound. with a lead track that features waves of vocals, african rhythms, electronic beats, and sub-bass galore, 'babylon system' pretty much assembles itself - fusing a ghanaian funeral brass band to dubstep schematics in a style which will have you stuck in the groove well past the run-out. on the back is a remix from the man multipara - best known for his output on lux nigra - wherein rave-hop makes its presence felt through some carbonated styles which cross cut the west african base with a topping of potent chrome beats. eclectic, loud and proud, 'babylon system' is further reason to make space in your collection for an 'alpine dubstep' section..." (boomkat) "a 12inch single with a vocal track by hey ø hansen and a rave-hop remix by multipara." (label info)

HEY-O-HANSEN FIRE

HEY REC

12"

€7.90

"following up 'moon' and 'gogogo' comes this excellent third volume in the hey singles series. it's a timely and refreshing blend, as the hey boys join forces with karl marx stadt - hey rocking the top-side with some adulterated bashment, karl marx stadt chopping up the place with a dubstep beamer, straight in your face. featuring band fellow sir lord gordon odametey tackling the fiery subject matter ina fashion somewhere close to super cat, an unnamed ice-maiden on chorus duties and a rhythm seemingly updated from cutty ranks late eighties - early nineties raggamuffin take on the 'lambada', you've a new and sweetly twisted chapter in the remarkable hey discography.'' (boomkat) "a 12inch single with a vocal track by hey ø hansen and a dubstep remix by karl-marx-stadt." (label info)

HEY-O-HANSEN FLY HOME

HEY REC

12"

€7.90

''one of the most consistently interesting berlin labels operating from the d+m/hardwax axis, heyrec come correct this week with a heavyweight slice of steppers techno. flying in at a rockin' 140bpm with nifty half-step tendencies, the track develops into layers of lush latin guitars and swirling synth pads with joyful rasta cries for some goodtime party biznizz. longtime dubcore fiend and proprietor of fwd>>'s berlin franchise dj maxximus does a grand remix job on the flip with some overt dubsteppin references but still sticking with the propulsive techno-step patterns, switching between 4/4 and half-step but never requiring the patience needed with yer typical standard dubstep riddims. a truly intriguing and rewarding piece of dancefloor science, get your snaffle on.'' (boomkat) "a 12inch single with a vocal track by hey ø hansen and a dubstep remix by dj maxximus." (label info)

HEY-O-HANSEN GOGOGO

HEY REC

12"

€7.90

''the new hey-o-hansen record shows sounds starting to toughen up for our alpine berliner heroes, following a rave reception accorded to their last single "moon". it features an incredible mixture of so many different styles, mixing those styles like a well thought out pot of austrian soup with dumplings. gogogo should freshen even the most jaded pair of ears, there is definitely something special about the melody running throughout. touted as afro alpine dub techno with vocals, alp horns, african percussion and a steady beat, you may well be surprised by the gleaming, shimmering, mountain railway groove. the b side sees harzkrafthof metalically kick it off with spacious berlin sounds - something about this music has a magical quality you just don't commonly find elsewhere.'' (boomkat) "a 12inch single with a vocal track by hey ø hansen and gordon odametey and a remix by harzkrafthof." (label info)

HEY-O-HANSEN L'ELEPHANT CRUEL

HEY REC

LP

€12.90

"a fine mixture of dub-ska and francophile pop-trash, charming melodicas and vocals. the vinyl lp edition features 6 selected and tightened songs on the a-side. b-side is one long electronic rework of bits and pieces from the whole, now o/p cd album." (label info)

HEY-O-HANSEN RARE AND UNRELEASED AUSTRODUB TRACKS 1995-2009

PINGIPUNG

CD

€12.90

"with "sonn und mond" pingipung presents an insight into the archives of the austrian dub act hey-o-hansen. "sonn und mond" is far more than just a "best-of". as the subtitle reveals, this record collects "rare and unreleased austro-dub tracks", which are in the first place scarce gems from the last decade's oeuvre of this outstanding duo. hey-o-hansen have been famous for their musical output on remote formats such as rare vinyl singles or even on cassette tapes, through their own label heyrec. their extraordinary skills and tricks in sound engineering join their detailed, lo-fi playfulness which is based on the artistic cross-grainedness of the duo and the fact that they appreciate the openness of a live performance as essential for their compositions. maybe that is why numerous guest musicians appear on this record; for example dirk von lowtzow (vocals), gordon odameteys (percussion), olaf rupp (gitarre), and kazumi (vo-cals), just to name a few. in hey-o-hansen's music the deepness of dub is always combined with the catchiness of a chanson or the stubborn straightness of a dancefloor track." HEY-O-HANSEN THE06SINGLES

HEY REC

CD

€12.90

"in 2006 hey-o-hansen released a series of 12inch singles, documenting their musical journey starting from the soundtracks to a yet unwriten emir kusturica film stepping into their unique style of berlin-afro-alpin-dubstep-killersound completely obliterating any sound system with some maximum badness. this is the cd compilation of the vinyl collectors series. they were supported by the co-musicians wolfang amadé kapellari, gerhard erler, samuli kosminen and eiríkur orri from múm, olaf rupp and dirk von lowtzow. and it never would have happened without the excellent league of berlin based remixers thaddeus herrmann (city centre offices), harzkrafthof (lovelite), karl marx stadt (lux nigra), dj maxximus (ambush, schematic), multipara (lux nigra). all you dubstep fans out there, listen up to an incredible 75 minutes mixture of so many different styles, mixed like a well thought out pot of austrian soup with dumplings. a truly intriguing and rewarding piece of dancefloor science." HEY-O-HANSEN WE SO HORNY - SERIOUS PLEASURE RIDDIMS

PINGIPUNG

LP

€13.90

"on "we so horny", hey-ø-hansen strip down dub rhythms ranging from the fifties up to electronic dancehall and make them up freshly in the guise of dubstep. dub at the interface between digital and analog. with its monolithic consolidation of drums, bass, grating 80s synths, winds and echoes, the album soars above the berlin plains like an alpine rock face. the roots of hey-ø-hansen's music reach deeply into tyrolian folk music and its peculiar off-beat, but it's their studios in berlin where it unfolds its power. one half of the band is michael wolf, a painter, replete with artistic cross-grainedness. david thomas fred frith mark steward brian eno captain beefheart sonic youth the residents rhys chatham snakefinger john zorn - that's his musical background. the second half of the band is helmut erler. at least one generation younger than wolf. his cosmos is more contemporary; he's been working for many years as a sound engineer for dubplates & mastering. as far as dub and techno are concerned, this puts him in the tradition of basic channel and chain reaction, as he makes the sound for dial, ostgut-ton, applepips, sub:stance, hotflush, soloaction - just naming a few of the labels. so when you put wolf and erler together in a band, relocate them from tyrol to berlin, give them a good shaking and wait for fifteen years (that's how long hey-ø-hansen have been around) - it's hardly surprising when the result renders you speechless. austrodub - that's the white dub of the next generation. condensed, focussed, and precise. it's for all those who are still getting tearyeyed over 'roots', who are about to consider 'dubstep' done and over, and yet who know that the road always continues, that bass holds the world together." (label info) recommended.

"while side a by 'no horse no rider' is a brave traditional country style tribute to hank williams, side b by 'hey-o-hansen and ava carrère' is a ventured re-interpretation of the song in a very unique style. to our knowledge this is the first version of ramblin' man with a female vocalist and it is definitely the first reggae/dancehall style version."
