BORDO KOMU MAM TO POWIEDZIEC?

MONOTYPE RECORDS

CD

€13.90

"the cracow band bordo had spent ten years underground untill it lived to see its desired album. during that time it shrouded in legend and became one of the most mysterious phenomenon on the polish rock stage. vocalist and bass-player robert stobbe is its "brain". he formed bordo in the middle of the nineties to collaborate with his friends and fulfill his musical visions. since the beginning music of the group was stretched between psychedelic rock and post-punk new wave. first two releases - brzmi wewnatrz (1999) and nowa kolekcja (2001) appeared on cd-r and were sold out during bordo's concerts. it quickly came out that enthusiasts of gloomy sounds made the band an object of their cult. when in 2001 female vocalist left the group, leader himself took over the microphone. then, the material komu mam to powiedziec? was published by the resilient warsaw label monotyperec. the content sums up bordo's past experiences and is supplemented with some new elements. solid bass, originating from again popular joy division's productions, is the band sound basis. it is surrounded by a rough guitar, which once calls the echoes of the velvet underground's garage chords and another time, subjected to the bizarre adapter, reminds the kraut-rock experiments." BRASIL AND THE GALLOWBROTHERS BAND HI BRASIL IS WHERE WE ARE

MONOTYPE RECORDS

CD

€12.90

"after two years of silence brasil and the gallowbrothers band come out from the shadow with their new album "hi brasil is where we are". after conceptual and urban in style "legionowo" which was warmly acclaimed, it's time for a change. first of all, "hi brasil is where we are" consists of six songs, built on polyrhytmical structures basis. work on traditional tissue of brasil braided with the rhytm determined a new direction of operating. two drummers were invited to work on album together with brasil: karol koszniec (stwory) and tomek gadomski (band of endless noise). they took care after all kinds of percussive instrumens, starting from old russian electronic drum machine, going through exotic percussive gadgets from all over the world, and ending with traditional drum kit. new elements were perfectly melted with blurred structures made with electric piano, guitars, trumpet and analogue sythesisers, well known from previous releases by the band. on "hi brasil is where we are" you can find mixed echoes of postrock, psychedelia, ambient, new wave or even world music. and all of it, as always, spiced up with lo-fi sound." SING SING PENELOPE MUSIC FOR UMBRELLAS

MONOTYPE RECORDS

CD
(used)

€7.00

"there is a place in jazz, where improvisation ends, and echoes and yass begins. sing sing penelope, definitely, is an example of this. it is a kind of music which flows in your veins slowly, very slowly. ssp has created music which combines psychedelic, yass, "trance electric jazz" and modern club music. this album presents six compositions - including remarkable "walce bydgoskie", "chickens" and "kabunga". the songs linger on, last about 8-9 minutes. those not in the subject matter surely won't notice the difference between one piece and another. songs have no verses nor chorus. they just flow by. the band is formed by: rafal gorzycki (maestro trytony, ecstasy project, 3 metry), tomasz glazik (4 syfon), daniel mackiewicz (maestro trytony, mazzoll), patryk weclawek (ecstasy project) and wojciech jachna." V.A. GO-TO-CAT-MAN-DO

MONOTYPE RECORDS

CD

€13.90

"go-to-cat-man-do collects work from an international array of similarly aligned artists, ranging from the barest of the bare (francisco lopez's unsurprising "untitled #165") to the tastefully adorned (vion & mem's grinding "kontra"). the more elegant pieces are those that leave their sample material somewhat unviolated: "untitled" (a popular title on this compilation) by stworywodne.jaszczury uses the truncated chants of schoolchildren to create a rhythmic canvas for the interplay of sparkling metallic percussion and looped violin samples, whereas patryk zakrocki uses dulcimer strings in the web-like construction of his "nepal" meditation. a dark document of a lost child, one inch of shadow's "piesn 9" features a young voice gasping for recognition amid accreting layers of obfuscating drone. the starting point of that compilation was an assemblage of traditional nepal songs. artists have made their own interpretations of the original tracks, so that we are given a collage linking east and west, tradition and modernity, folklore and avantgarde." ZAKROCKI, PATRYK PRACE Z OBRAZKIEM

MONOTYPE RECORDS

CD

€13.90

" the album includes the selection of the pieces i've been working on during last 4 years. direct pretext for creating it was not exactly a will to consider a particular musical likelihood or a desire to face technical problems, but rather a kind of attraction of an outer object: a film, a person, a view. most of the pieces were born in my house - inspired by a picture or straight out of my imagination or made up on a paper and, eventually, recorded in the studio. characteristic for this particular material is the role of computer, which is restricted to the mastering stage only and totaly excluded from the process of creation. that decision followed the exhaustion of electronic and electroacoustic music, on which i have been working earlier within such projects as meoma and ea. there is no sound synthesis and samples in any of those pieces as well - all instruments really exist and were recorded also with my friends' help. works i'm showing here have no ambitions to mark up new directions in art or compete with its great deeds, they are rather recordings of my own personal pleasures resulted from dealing with beautiful pictures perceived as sound configurations."
