"after touring for the better part of 2007 on their last album, cocorosie were ready to create new songs. at a festival in buenos aires, they met nicolas kalwill, a renowned studio engineer, who became the engineer for the recording of their next album. the first recording session took place in buenos aires called panda during the days following the festival. during these sessions their new band member, gael rakotondrabe - a successful jazz pianist based in paris - finally became their kindred, musical spirit and creative partner in many of the songs on the new album. over the next one and a half years, they would all meet up after each major tour and record in whichever studio they found themselves closest to. besides buenos aires, cocorosie also spent time recording in paris, berlin, new york and melbourne. eventually, a couple of the new songs started to push their way into the band's live shows and by the end of 2009 were ready to become cocorosie's fourth album "grey oceans"."
