GULGOWSKI, WLODEK - 13 WORKS FOR PIANO (CD)

"Wlodek Gulgowski was born in 1944, in Lodz, Poland where he studied piano at the conservatory. After his studies, he dedicated himself to improvisation and jazz. He came to Sweden in 1965 and worked as a pianist, arranger and composer; during this time, he collaborated with the group "Made in Sweden". He travelled to the United States in 1975 and worked with musicians such as Al DiMeola, Steve Gadd, Anthony Williams and Anthony Jackson. Gulgowski returned to Sweden in 1980, and from 1984-86 he studied composition with his countryman Witold Lutoslawski. Gulgowski has written primarily for the piano, but he has also composed a great deal of music for theatre and film through the years. This CD contains 13 of Gulgowski's compositions for the piano, played by Niklas Sivelöv, a young successful pianist and composer who has made a number of acclaimed recordings. "(label info)
