FRANICH, BRYCE - WERE THERE NO WICKED: OVERTONES FOR BASS CLARINET, PIANO, AND AMPLIFIED GUITAR (K7)

Were There No Wicked is ritual music in tribute to Sunyata. Employing plangency as a symbolic method of exploring form and formlessness through amplification to reconnoiter the landscape of inner/outer resonance, survey vibrational reactions to the body's energy system, and through woodwinds and piano, organically re-amping to manufacture electrical feedback frequencies, and overtones. The debut album from Bryce Franich is, at its core, music created through the use of meditation techniques to assist in the practice of meditation. Consisting of two long-form drone-based soundscapes, Were There No Wicked is a gradually evolving rumination on voidness that offers elements of free jazz, noise, and psychedelic music, effect-laden guitars, oscillators, and electronics as a doorway to drop out. Bhutanese guitarist Tashi Dorji and album producer and multi-instrumentalist Shane McCord contributed to both pieces. It was mastered by James Plotkin.
