JUSTIN, - FURNS NEIGH (CD)

"Justin's debut outing on MONTAGE comes under the form of "Furns Neigh", a mini-album containing 8 songs. The album fantasizes about intertemporal meetings between the 18th century and futuristic AI. It's all about "predictability, chance and lifestations in some futurepastclash" as Justin words it herself. Naming characters in her imagined play, a track like "Packs life", is about someone named Pack wandering through Hesse-style 18th century setting. As Pack's life is rather unimportant or uneventful to the course of history and Packs own life-choices limited, the track is literally made up of Ableton's packs. In that sense, Justin's imagination had a direct influence on the sound, rendering cut-up and story-like renditions of what a fully automated 18th century might sound like. In "Y age inter" we can hear a digital steel drum from outer space, conversing with imaginary birds in a Victorian spring never meant to be. Closing track "Calibre" is about an aristocrat's hospice with automated technology, situated in a library room. It reflects on possibilities of extended life along historical lines. On Furns Neigh, Justin manages to navigate her made-up world with ease, without ever treading into ever-clichéd ideas of steampunk and the like." (label info)
