HILDE - TIMBRE (CD)

This music is neither jazz nor chamber music, neither ambient nor chanson-and certainly not any kind of third stream. Welcome to the third album by the band Hilde, based in North Rhine-Westphalia and London. From the very first moment, the band succeeds in freeing itself from all categorical constraints. It is one hundred percent Hilde, and in this form, it could only be created by these four musicians. It requires no definitions, reference points, or explanations; instead, it unfolds across the coordinates of time and space with such naturalness and independence as if it had always existed there, merely waiting for the right personalities capable of doing it justice with the necessary confidence and humility. The guiding principle for the new album was the band's live performances, in which one piece consistently flows into the next, following the sequence of moods. Improvised and composed elements are rearranged anew with each performance. Much of what may sound composed while listening is, in fact, improvised. The four musicians succeed in bringing the listening experience very close to their live performance while simultaneously detaching it entirely from their individual performing personas. They offer listeners the generous gift of freely expanding within the sonic space they create, surrendering to their own images and associations-provided one allows this space to unfold as a whole."Timbre" is an album with character that reveals itself through its flexible simultaneity and sense of wholeness. The tension in the music arises from its inner coherence. It presents itself beautifully, immediately accessible and pleasing at any moment; yet beneath the surface lies a depth and an intuition that only gradually seeks to be discovered. Julia Brüssel - violin, Marie Daniels - voice, Maria Trautmann - trombone, Emily Wittbrodt - cello
