Composer and trumpet player, John Korsrud formed the 17-piece Hard Rubber Orchestra, a Godzilla of a Big Band, in 1990 after graduating from the University of British Columbia School of Music. He studied composition with Louis Andriessen at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague (1995-1997) and has been a frequent artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts (1984 to 1994). As a trumpet player, Korsrud has performed with artists, George Lewis, Vinny Golia, Butch Morris, Barry Guy, René Lussier, Myra Melford, Kenny Wheeler, Han Bennink, the NOW Orchestra, and the Vancouver Ensemble of Jazz Improvisation (VEJI) among others."
