"In June Lieven Martens Moana (Dolphins Into The Future) releases his first LP under his birth name on KRAAK. The change of name marks a shift in his oeuvre in the direction of musical research and classical composition. Moana interprets his LP's more and more as art editions than as actual music albums. Inspired by literature, painting and cinema he has concentrated on the evolution of a personal, hermetic language of sounds in the last couple of years. This eventually lead to new work which has to be approached mainly as a documentary or a landscape painting. The LP has two theme's: The a-side is a 'nature morte'. The depiction of life, as emitted by the Parasol trees, which appear around the Mediteranean sea. A tree with a beautiful language of forms. As a power of attraction for many questions and answers, for Life. The b-side is an ode to the female forms of a volcanic island, of sensual movements. This side has its roots in an answer to Toru Takemitsu's "Coral Island" compositions, as well as in a comparative studies of the mythologies in different Mela / Micro / Polynesean peoples, that always track back to the volcano as the primal force of Woman. The eternal present anima in every one of us." (label info)
