TAKARA, M. - LIVE AT 3X3 (K7)

"Since emerging on the underground music scene of his hometown São Paolo, drummer Mauricio Takara has come a long way, from local punk and hardcore bands via celebrated postrock outfit Hurtmold to playing with some of Brazilian finest artists such as Nacao Zumbi, Vanessa Da Mata, Sabotage, Naná Vasconcelos and Marcelo Camelo, as well as international players as Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Yusef Lateef, Roscoe Mitchell, Bill Dixon and Prefuse 73, to name but a few. M.Takara has released numerous solo albums on Desmonta Discos. Recent releases saw him collaborate with keyboarder Carla Boregas, both of them having recently moved from São Paolo to Berlin. Here he has found friends among the more free spirited musicians in the field of improvised and electro-acoustic music research, and it was during one of their more secretive gatherings that we managed to capture his solo performance on multi track. Played on a drum kit, assorted smaller percussions and a loop/FX-device, it gives an intricate impression of Takaras mastery, from the tiniest sound source and subtle pattern shifts to the spiritual realm of drum induced ecstasy, including a few vocal outbursts. As fervent adepts of one take magic, we deemed this one perfect and left it without edits. Mixed and mastered with care by Ilia Gorovitz, it can now be enjoyed on two sides of a good old fashioned cassette tape with artworks provided by Mauricio Takara himself." (label info)
