OEHLEN, MARKUS - RAMPE AMALGAN (LP)

"Much like Charlemagne Palestine turned out to be a maximalist instead of a minimalist, German visual artist and musician Markus Oehlen is not the wild man or "neue wilde" the international press made of this punk pioneer! Interested in some change overs, turn arounds and bad taste, sure, but always in control. Yes future! 50/50! Painting from 8 am until 4pm, and making music from 4pm until the neighbours pull the plug. Since the late 70's Markus Oehlen has always made music next to (sometimes running through) his career as a visual artist. This resulted in early punk acts like Mittagpause and Fehlfarben, new/no wave adventures with DAF's Gabi Delgado in Deutschland Terzett, to many artist records with a crew of other (German) trouble making artists such as Martin Kippenberger, Albert Oehlen (his brother), Jörg Immendorf, A.R. Penck, Werner Buttner, and free jazz mainstays such as Rüdiger Carl or Sven-Åke Johansson. In the early 2000's the Oehlen brothers often played together as well as duo's (often extended to trios) such as the off beat Suicide type synth rock 'n rollers Van Oehlen, or the electronic free jazz of Jailhouse. Solo Oehlen has been creating electronic music both under his own name as under the Don Hobby moniker. Electronic music that toys with the concrète in a similar way somebody like Russell Haswell or Autechre do, dust erected into electronic fire works, with a very far out hint to GAS or at least sombody that is hiding a beat in a room near the one where things get done.
