Here we have four quite different compositions rubbing shoulders: Dag Wirén's neo-classical Third Quartet, written in 1945, and, eight years its junior and cast in a more modern and expressive vein, the Fourth Quartet. Bo Linde's String Quartet, written in 1953, is one of the rare instances in Swedish music of really youthful genius, and Daniel Börtz's dynamic Third Quartet, from the mid-1980s, has been described as enigmatic, fluctuating between immense antitheses.
