Concertanti Veneziani; A Voice from Elysium; Mirror of Diana; Six Paripari. Walter Winslow (1947-1998) was a promising American composer whose life was cut short by cancer at age 50. His eloquent and engaging music was influenced by legends and relics of European antiquities and by the beauty of solitude of nature. Winslow studied composition with Andrew Imbrie and Olly Wilson, among others, and also excelled as a concert pianist. Of the four works on this disc, which all date from the 1990s, A Voice from Elysium is an especially poignant theatrical exploration of early death and the struggle of survivors while Concertati Veneziani is haunting string sextet inspired by the majesty of Venice and its associations with Baroque and Classical counterpoint.
